We are by no means an elitist team. We welcome anyone who loves the sport of cycling. Our goal is to encourage and support all riders who want to participate and develop their skills. Everyone is welcome.

JCC’s member activities encompass the entire range of the sport, with racing, long-distance endurance, and fitness rides appealing to different parts of the club membership.

Weekly Rides

JCC conducts regular weekly training and fitness rides throughout the week, catering to riders of all age groups and fitness levels.

Details about our weekly rides and the routes are generally shared on our virtual clubhouse on the WhatsApp club group and Strava JCC Group.  Please also join our Facebook Group for the latest updates on Saturday and Sunday rides as well as special events.

Our Rides
We have a regular programme of inclusive group rides ranging from easy, social rides to hard rides for competitive racers. Our main club rides are on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 5:30 a.m., starting at the Munuki Bridget meeting point.

You are sure to find a group to ride with, and as your cycling needs change, you can try different groups and ride speeds. You'll find welcoming smiles and encouragement on all the rides, and you'll make many new friends.

What you must have to ride:

  • Road bike or gravel bike with drop handlebars.

  • Well Maintained Bike.

  • Helmets are mandatory; cycling gloves and sunglasses are recommended.

  • Water and food sufficient for the ride.

  • Cell phone and ID.

  • JCC Jersey.

  • Spare Tubes, Mini Pump, tyre levers and Bike Multitool for puncture repair

What you need to know:

  • Basic riding skills and the ability to ride for 2.5 hours, averaging 20 kph.

  • Basic understanding of group riding techniques.

  • Riding double, “Tight and to the Right”, pace lines.

  • Familiarity with JCC Ride Guidelines and Risk Management Plan published on the JCC website.

  • Introductory Group Riding instruction is provided by JCC periodically.

How JCC rides work:

  • JCC always respects other road users and the Highway Code. As a club, we want to give other road users a positive impression of cyclists, so we always thank motorists when they show courtesy, patience, or consideration.

  • When riding with JCC, please try not to respond to aggression from other road users. This can often escalate a situation, so though it may not always be easy, try to ignore. (If there is a severe incident, such as a deliberate act of aggression that endangers the group's safety, try to take the details of the vehicle involved.)

  • Our Whatsapp group app is the best source of information for announcements about rides, upcoming events, ride changes, cancellations, and rescheduling.

  • Most club rides will originate at the Munuki Bridge, beginning promptly at 5:45 a.m.; please arrive a few minutes early.

  • Special rides may be scheduled to start from other places, but they will be communicated on our WhatsApp group.

  • Riders and rides are grouped based on target average speed and distance.

  • At the ride meeting site, larger groups will be split into smaller subgroups of optimally 8 riders who will ride together; we try not to have riding groups larger than 12 or less than 4.

  • Every riding group must have at least one JCC Ride Leader who knows the route, has a cell phone and is responsible for ensuring the ride follows JCC ride policies and guidelines.

  • Wherever possible, JCC rides two abreast. It’s safer to be smaller and more compact on the road. The Ride Leaders will dictate when the group breaks into single file (invariably only on busier roads or minor roads with bends).

  • JCC likes to keep a tight peloton. Endeavour to ride as close to the rider's wheel in front of you as you can. The more compact the group, the safer it is on the road and the greater the slipstream benefit.

  • When riding in the front, keep the pace consistent and try not to surge or increase the speed unexpectedly. If the pace increases, be aware of any riders in the group who may be struggling and reduce the speed as necessary.

  • Conversely, do not decrease the speed suddenly or grab on the brakes. Endeavour to make your speed consistent and smooth and be alert to hazards ahead that may cause you to slow.

  • Do not wheel suck!! When riding in a group, it's essential not to forget your responsibilities, so always pull on the front wheel when it's your turn and don't hide in the group.

  • Do not ride in the gutter or too close to the verge, as you will likely encounter road debris or pick up a puncture.

  • Stay level with the rider beside you. This is especially important if you are riding in the front of the group. Half-wheeling, when you edge ahead of the rider beside you and speed up if he/she draws level, is a definite no-no when riding in a group!
